Getting Your Comfys On

I love the picture Paul paints when he tells us, “Therefore put on the full armor of God…” (Eph 6:10-18 NIV) and then he list the items we are to wear. The belt of truth, breastplate of righteousness, shoes of readiness, shield of faith, helmet of salvation and sword of the Spirit. The implication is that you should always be ready and dressed in your armor. I don’t know about you, but in the evenings I like to get out of my clothes, put on my comfys and just relax. Thank goodness for guardian angels.

Gail;

-----Comfort is important. It is a condition human nature seeks. Therefore the Lord does not ignore it. “Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort, Who comforts us in all our affliction, so that we may be able to comfort those who are in any affliction, with the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God.” (II Cor 1:3-4) All affliction and any affliction means great and small alike, significant and insignificant, whether it be the tragic death of a loved one or a simple fold in the tongue of your shoe. Although a person would think the weight of a helmet, the clumsiness of a breastplate, the restriction of a belt, the suffocation of boots, and the fuss of keeping a shield and sword at hand would not at all make for comfort, these are our comfiest.
-----God custom fits each helmet to each child, “...work out your own salvation with fear and trembling.” (Phil 2:12) Every breastplate is fitted to each chest, “...Let everyone be fully convinced in his own mind...It is before his own master he stands or falls. And he will be upheld, for the Master is able to make him stand.” (Rom 14:5b and 4b) Each belt has neither too few nor too many buckle holes, “...and if in anything you are otherwise minded, God will reveal that also to you. Only let us hold true to what we have attained,” (Philippians 3:15b-16) for “...the anointing which you received from Him abides in you, and you have no need that anyone should teach you, as His anointing teaches you about everything, and is true...” (I John 2:27). Of all our parts having the most disparity in size and shape, He fits our feet with carefully selected shoes, “To each is given the manifestation of the Spirit for the common good...All these are inspired by one and the same Spirit, Who apportions to each one individually as He wills.” (I Cor 12:4-11). Even the shield is measured by God for custom fit, “...according to the measure of faith which God has assigned him,” (Rom 12:4b) and the sword is magnetized to the hand, “...He has put His seal upon us and given us His Spirit in our hearts as a guarantee.” (II Cor 1:22) If God’s equipment for us were fitted to either the soldier beside us or the model soldier held up before us, we would no more accept its ill fit than David accepted Saul’s cumbersome, oversized armor.

Love you all,
