Simply Stated

As a pastor prepared for communion he tried to put the Lord’s Table in historical context. I knew he wanted to wind up with Jesus at the Last Supper; however, he was all over the map with Moses, Passover, killing the lamb, the blood on the door jambs and the Lamb of God. Certainly the pastor knew his material, but he failed to present it in a succinct manner and the importance of communion was lost in the Old Testament desert. Paul said, “…The Lord Jesus, on the night he was betrayed, took bread, and when he had given thanks, he broke it and said, “This is my body, which is for you; do this in remembrance of me.” In the same way, after supper he took the cup, saying, “This cup is the new covenant in my blood; do this, whenever you drink it, in remembrance of me.” For whenever you eat this bread and drink this cup, you proclaim the Lord’s death until he comes.” (1 Cor 11:23b-25 NIV).
