Caught Napping

During a TV interview a zealous politician was asked about his political involvements during the 1990’s and he said, “Well, I think at that time I was politically asleep.” I hate to admit it, but I can relate to his self-examination on more than one level. There are times believers are spiritually asleep and we fail to expose unfruitful works of darkness. Paul says, “Awake, O sleeper, and arise from the dead, and Christ will shine on you.” (Eph 514b ESV). Of course then there are those folks who are only half awake and just pull the covers up over their head when the Lord shines on them.

Gail;

-----Exposing unfruitful works of darkness is only one call for alertness. As a driver must alertly watch the road so he will know where to steer his vehicle, we must alertly watch what happens around us so we will know where to steer our prayers and supplications. (Eph 6:14) Moreover, God created good works beforehand, that we should walk in them (Eph 2:10). Some of the good works are spreading the gospel, some are teaching, some are giving, but the bulk of them are kindness, gentleness, honesty, and the simple desire for others to experience what is right and beneficial. The nuts and bolts of the works He made for us to walk in are so subtle that it does not even take a doze to miss them. A plain diversion of attention is enough.
