Drop-Ins

My local Toastmasters’ Club dissolved because we don’t have enough committed people attending to take leadership positions. Over the last few years the standard justification has been, “My schedule is so busy that I can’t commit to regular attendance, but I’ll come when I can.” There is sometimes a similar attitude in the church. Not only is it used as an excuse, but surprisingly we accept it as a perfectly reasonable explanation. Really, can you see any of us getting away with telling the Lord that were pretty busy, but we’ll drop in when we can?

Gail;

-----Might we assume your Busy-Bee is quite busy at home. That happens from time to time. Home is an extremely important place, and sometimes things needing attention there need attention at times not of your choosing. In this economic time, I can see possibilities that busy could be at work. The unavailability of another job down the street at the time an employee wants to make the job-hop gives the employment market to the employers. If the employer desires the employee to be at work when the employee would rather be at church, a drawer full of applications will turn up a replacement acceptable to the employer. Since the employee is working to support his home, he is stuck in what he has until better markets return. These are just a couple basic examples of what might keep a few folks from dropping by church when they can.
-----But they don’t keep them from dropping in on the Lord when they can. We are very fortunate to have a life that truly is in the Lord. There does not have to be any “away from the Lord.” Whether a particular time for doing at home, work, or anywhere is when things are happening at church or not, dropping in on the Lord is always available right there while you are doing what you are doing where you are doing it. By Jesus’ Matthew 25 formula, “...in as much as you have done it unto one of the least of these...” what you are doing at home, work, or anywhere else is being done to Jesus if your priorities and purposes are in realistic alignment with His. And that is eventually what it is all about in our lives. Since He is a pretty good organizer by His own means, the lives of most working alignment in their priorities and purposes get rather decent alignment by His means, at least enough that you really wouldn’t see many of them telling the Lord they’ll drop in when they can.

Love you all,
