Deception

The political landscape is littered with candidates and their campaign personnel accusing one another of lying, distorting records and manipulating the truth. Such tactics are prevalent in the world, but it’s disconcerting to also find them in the church. Paul wrote to the Thessalonians about a similar situation, “Concerning the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ and our being gathered to him, we ask you, brothers, not to become easily unsettled or alarmed by some prophecy, report or letter supposed to have come from us, saying that the day of the Lord has already come. Don’t let anyone deceive you in any way…” (2 Thess 2:2-3a NIV).

Gail;

-----Of course, we know all men are false. “Surely there is not a righteous man on earth who does good and never sins…Behold, this alone I found, that God made man upright, but they have sought out many devices…also the hearts of men are full of evil, and madness is in their hearts while they live.” (Eccl 7:20,29,;9:3b) “They have all fallen away; they are all alike depraved;
there is none that does good, no, not one.” (Ps 53:3) “Let God be true though all men be false.” (Rom 3:4)
-----For we all seek out many devices. Maybe this is because we are impatient. I recently learned that a person I had greatly admired terminated his search for a reconciliation between science and the Word of God. His theology now seems to purport a Bible submitted to science. I was patient in searching for a reconciliation, and I did find it. Yet I can not take my critical eye off its propositions, because like all other humans, I am biased. So, are one or more of my propositions flawed? Maybe our devices are due to bias. I have not studied all of mankind, but I rather suspect the different reasons for all mankind’s devices are as ample as their devices are numerous.
-----Therefore, I would be the more impressed with the politician who admitted his deceitfulness, taking his seat amongst the numbers of mankind. But these morons we have fighting each other for their turn at pillaging this country seem to each think their seat is amongst the gods, the Donald being the foremost.
-----And then there are the people who will pick their leader according to their own variety of deception. Does anyone attach to the old idiom of my childhood days, “Love of country and fellow man.” I am sure everyone would claim that attitude if it were proposed to them. But that’s just it. I don’t ever hear it proposed anymore. Not even by the few conservative, faceless, radio voices to which I listen daily. Does anyone still propose it in the schools like it was done when I was a child?
-----Then what difference would it make if they did? This generation’s apparent understanding of justice is the fruits of hard labor enjoyed by the tummies of lazy bums. Always we hear the cry for justice to equally distribute the wealth, but never do we hear a cry for equal distribution of work and responsibility. Satan is known by three names in God’s Word: accuser, deceiver, and destroyer. I am amused by how much politicians have destroyed by their accusations and deceit. Lord come quickly!

Love you all.
