Zechariah
and Elizabeth, who were both well along in years, had no children because
Elizabeth was barren. Zachariah’s division was on duty and he was serving as
priest before God when an angel of the Lord appeared to him. “When Zechariah
saw him, he was startled and was gripped with fear. But the
angel said to him: “Do not be afraid, Zechariah; your prayer has been heard. Your
wife Elizabeth will bear you a son, and you are to give him the name John” (Luke
1:12-13 NIV). I constantly bombard God with prayers and in the back of my mind
I know He hears those prayers. However, I’m trying to imagine a messenger of
God affirming, “…your prayer has been heard.”
