Mistaken Identity

A local newspaper reported that a woman survived a gunshot wound to the head and has apparently resumed her transient life style, while the shooter on the other hand is answering questions about some past brushes with the law. The real story however, is that the woman wore a red Mohawk hair style and the shooter, from 90 feet away, mistook her for a bird. I can understand the shooters confusion. We have all fired off shots at others who are acting out of character and then we’re shocked to learn they are a fellow believer. Of course, if people can’t tell whether or not we are a Christian, maybe we deserve to be shot at.

Gail;

-----I wonder just how knowledgeable this shooter was. I grew up in this area, and I can’t recall any bird with more red on it than the patches on black-bird wings. In fact, the only red birds I know about having ever been in Colorado occasionally come up from Arizona to beat the Broncos. So this guy’s mindset becomes all the more instructive (assuming, of course, this happened in Colorado.)
-----I know there’s something about a rifle in the hands of a gun enthusiast. The trigger demands, “Squeeze me!” more than a high-school girl does at the senior prom. So the mind searches for any excuse to squeeze. It isn’t this way because he’s a gun enthusiast. The mind is in constant search for whatever fits its sentiments. Locked and loaded for argument, what piques the mind with possibility shapes in the eyes a target. When the smoke is cleared, somebody is bloody, somebody is guilty, and this turbid life has taken another twisted step into its own mess.
-----The Trayvon Martin/Zimmerman situation in Florida is full of the point. You could construct the possibility that Zimmerman hunted Tryvon down like a dog and blew him away. Maybe Zimmerman was a bit loaded for bear. But after all of the hateful, racist, rhetoric about how evil and white Zimmerman was (the Hispanics have even denied his Latino side,) the original police reports, the police photographs of Zimmerman, and eyewitnesses all place Zimmerman on his back getting his head smashed against the sidewalk by something other than a dear, sweet, little junior-high boy. Moreover, it was for a particular reason the photos of Trayvon released to the public are all three or four years old. A lot of sweetness can go “gangsta” in a few short years. Still the hooting crowds of brain-rabid racists pick carefully the scenery of the situation for the public’s viewing, because they are hoping to play upon everyone’s human nature to see the Mohawk as a bird.
-----If there is one thing I could squeeze Jesus for, it would be His insistence that the truth will set you free. I don’t need a mob of hot heads with brains pickled in self servitude to show me what is or isn’t true. I don’t even need them indicating the most general direction in which truth might lay. I’ll access evidence, thank them kindly. If red doesn’t occur in full splash across any bird in Colorado, then my mind’s ambition to see “bird” in red will remain under lock and key. Truth is relevant to evidence, not sentiments. And the mind that is not willing to proceed any further than the evidence goes is free indeed. The rest are trapped in life's wreckage.

Love you all,
Steve Corey
