Jesus told
the Jews, “Your forefathers ate the manna in the desert, yet they died. But here is the bread that comes down from heaven, which a man may
eat and not die. I am the living bread that came down from
heaven. If anyone eats of this bread, he will live forever. This bread is my
flesh, which I will give for the life of the world” (John 6:49-51 NIV). Some disciples
could not accept the teaching that the flesh of Jesus was real food and his blood
real drink and many turned back and no longer followed Jesus. The NIV study footnote
on John 6: 60 states the, “Teaching was hard to accept, not hard to understand.”
The same thought process is prevalent today. We understand what the Word of God
says…we just don’t want to accept it.
