I have a
friend who is getting on in years and is trying to tidy up the end of her life
and settle her estate. At one point she said, “It doesn’t matter because I won’t
be around to care.” I'm reminded of Jesus as he hung on the cross. The Lord
might have easily said, “It doesn’t matter because I won’t be around to care.” However,
the Lord in fact did care, “Near the cross of Jesus stood his mother, his
mother’s sister, Mary the wife of Clopas, and Mary Magdalene. When
Jesus saw his mother there, and the disciple whom he loved standing nearby, he
said to his mother, “Dear woman, here is your son,” and
to the disciple, “Here is your mother.” From that time on, this disciple
took her into his home” (John 19:25-27 NIV).
