A
traditional Easter greeting in the Western church is, “He is risen!” and the
traditional response is, “He is risen, indeed!” It’s a shame these sentiments seem
relegated only to Easter and not every day of the year. On the road to Emmaus
two disciples encountered the risen Lord and when their eyes were opened to recognized
him, he disappeared from their sight. “They got up and returned at once to
Jerusalem. There they found the Eleven and those with them, assembled
together and saying, “It is true! The Lord has risen and
has appeared to Simon.” Then the two told what had happened
on the way, and how Jesus was recognized by them when he broke the bread” (Luke
24:33-35 NIV). Indeed!
