Practice What You Preach

Rebellion against authority abounds at all levels — local, state and federal, and yes, even in the church. Jesus said to the crowd and to his disciples, “The teachers of the law and the Pharisees sit in Moses’ seat. So you must obey them and do everything they tell you. But do not do what they do, for they do not practice what they preach” (Matt 23:2-3 NIV). On a civil level it’s easy to obey and do what authorities tell me to do even though I may not agree with a particular law. However, when it comes to a man-made religious laws and hypocrisy, I’m hard pressed to obey and do everything I’m told to do.
