Jesus went
up on a mountainside and began to teach his disciples, the session included
the Lord’s model prayer (Matt 6:9-13). It appears that later in Jesus’ ministry
an unnamed disciple said, “Lord, teach us to pray, just as John taught his
disciples” (Luke 11:1b NIV). I’m wondering if this particular disciple was a
new recruit, or if perhaps he had missed the Sermon on the Mount and the lesson
on prayer. Jesus said to them, “When you pray, say: “‘Father, hallowed be
your name, your kingdom come. Give us each day our daily
bread. Forgive us our sins, for we also forgive everyone who sins
against us. And lead us not into temptation’”. (Luke 1:2-4 NIV).
