Open and Closed

Occasionally we’ll hear of a surgeon stopping an operation in mid-surgery because his patient’s condition is worse than first expected. In lay terms we say, “They just closed him back up because there wasn’t anything else they could do.” I always think of this dire situation through the eyes of the patient and his loved ones, but I forget the role of the surgeon and the helplessness he must be feeling. Jesus is the Great Physician and I can imagine the sadness He must feel when all he can do in the hearts of some people is to close the patient back up.

Gail;

-----God doesn’t desire anyone to perish. But many more will than will not. “...He knows the secrets of the heart,” (Ps 44:21b) “Thou hast set our iniquities before Thee, our secret sins in the light of Thy countenance,” (Ps 90:8) and “The spirit of man is the lamp of the LORD, searching all his innermost parts.” (Ps 20:27) The innermost parts of the heart are not merely thoughts and concepts. Do not emotions and feelings and attitudes and ambitions and imaginings also exist? He knows those, too - all of them that have ever been or will ever be. And most are not very decent to feel. Maybe it registers upon His awareness, is all. But even the lifeless wicked feel rightful hurts. Compassion feels the hurts of another as much as is possible. And God is compassionate.
-----I never particularly liked M*A*S*H. The humor was good; the scripts were top notch; the actors were stellar, but the messages were typical truths separated from reality for examination within sterile frameworks of a leftist dreamscape. The truths were the usual incoming wounded of yonder battles. The dreamscape was what pleasantries could be made while evil war was waged by evil, non-leftist ambitions, that is, those trying to defend themselves against the warring invasion of North Korean leftists. But as much as I disliked M*A*S*H, it so well portrayed the conditions of this present evil age. We individually perceive the dreamscape, maybe because if we directly perceived the war we would shrivel at a site far worse than the many occasions of incoming wounded.
-----If it’s open heart surgery the Lord performs, certainly it’s done in the conditions of a triage. This is not a clean place. And more are being closed back up than are getting new hearts. Whenever I feel I have born all I can bear I think of all He has felt, all those hearts registering all tragedies everywhere from the beginning of evil to its end. His eyes do not search without compassionately desiring that none should be closed back up. Yet...
