During one sermon a pastor
said, “God’s love is, has been and always will be. God’s love doesn’t start
when we get things right. God has always loved us. And His wrath is set aside
through the cross.” Elements of God's love include mercy and kindness and it gives me
pause to know that God can take his love away from us. After promising David that
his offspring would succeed him God, through revelation to Nathan, said, “He is
the one who will build a house for my Name, and I will establish the throne of
his kingdom forever. I will be his father, and he will be
my son. When he does wrong, I will punish him with the rod of men, with floggings
inflicted by men. But my love will never be taken away from
him, as I took it away from Saul, whom I removed from before you”
(2 Sam 7:13-15 NIV).

-----We humans bloat in the head over nothing more than we do love. It shows how wily Satan really is by leading us to puff ourselves up in an illogical concept like the modern notion of love, then worship it instead of God. The modern notion of love is idolatry. Even when in the churches, it is idolatry.
-----Careful analysis of what the Bible says about God and love and His actions toward man present a completely different concept of love from what we rush to lavish on every doer of debauchery, immorality, and deception. Love isn’t rushing to open every door for the homosexual. It isn’t pouring the sicky-sweet syrup of affection all over our fornicating adolescents, or hallowing the licentious and morbid and blasphemous artisans of our entertainment.
-----The Bible says God is love. But He hates. He abhors the bloodthirsty and deceitful (Ps 5:6). He hates double-minded men (Ps 119:113,) those who regard idols (Ps 31:6,) those who love violence (Ps 11:5.) He hates “…haughty eyes, a lying tongue, and hands that shed innocent blood, a heart that devises wicked plans, feet that make haste to run to evil, a false witness who breathes out lies, and a man who sows discord among brothers.” (Prov 6:17-19) With a perfect hatred He hates those who rise up against and hate Him (Ps 139:21-22.) We can lay to rest this senseless, mushy “God loves without discretion” bull ony.
-----”By this we know love, that he laid down his life for us.” (I John 3:16) Actually, He laid down His life for every human ever born. In that action He loves everyone. But that love does not extend unto nonsense. It extends unto each individual’s reaction to it. If the reaction is acceptance, then “…thou, O Lord, art good and forgiving, abounding in steadfast love to all who call on thee.” (Ps 86:5) But when the reaction becomes real and final in rejection, then, “The boastful may not stand before thy eyes; thou hatest all evildoers.” (Ps 5:5)
-----Why have we found God’s love not to be the overly sweetened, overflowing pot of oatmeal modern man tags it to be? Because love and truth are indelibly intertwined at the most basic level of meaning. Love without truth is hysteria. Truth without love is tyranny. Truth and love must work together, for love is the provision of only good. And good is narrowly defined by truth.
