A snippet from a brief bio describing a Christian workshop leader said, “She also does
biblical research, sermon prep, and styling for pastors at a multi-site
Midwestern megachurch of 12,000.” It appears that the days of a pastor spending
20-hours a week in sermon preparation are over. I now wonder how many of today’s
pulpits are filled with actors who simply want to learn a script. Paul said, “It
was he who gave some to be apostles, some to be prophets, some to be
evangelists, and some to be pastors and teachers, to
prepare God’s people for works of service, so that the body of Christ may be
built up until we all reach unity in the faith and in the
knowledge of the Son of God and become mature, attaining to the whole measure
of the fullness of Christ” (Eph 4:11-13 NIV).
