Earlier this
summer I scurried up the Post Office steps and crammed my foot into the granite
riser and broke my big toe. It became swollen, painful and turned eggplant
purple. For a couple weeks I favored the toe with a limp, had a hard time with balance
and was forced to reduce my walking speed on the treadmill. The injured toe
affected my whole body, including my mental attitude. Any injury is a great
object lesson to help us grasp our membership in the Body of Christ. Paul said,
“If one part suffers, every part suffers with it; if one part is honored, every
part rejoices with it” (1 Cor 12:26 NIV).
