Many people at
the gym have tattoos displayed in a variety of designs, sizes and shapes. Some graphics cover such a large portion of
the person’s body that it is hard to discern the message they want to impart. I wonder if the images represent who the person was, who they are today,
or who they aspire to become. I’m trying to imagine Paul sporting tattoos from
his previous life, when he was known as Saul. Paul said, “I thank Christ Jesus
our Lord, who has given me strength, that he considered me faithful, appointing
me to his service. Even though I was once a blasphemer and
a persecutor and a violent man, I was shown mercy because I acted in ignorance
and unbelief. The grace of our Lord was poured out on me
abundantly, along with the faith and love that are in Christ Jesus” (1 Tim 1:13-14
NIV).
