Happy New Year 2008

Once I discovered the Lord could ring in the New Year without my help and while I slept, I find January 1st so much more enjoyable.

Gail;
-----My dad has the habit of saying, “See you next year,” when saying goodbyes in the last few days of the year. That has always annoyed me just a little, because I know there will be only a few days spans of time before I see him again, not a year. And if he is referring to the fact that in a couple days we will be representing the date with a different number, it still does not turn the passage of a day into the passage of a year. Nor do I like birthdays, the arrival of which does not make someone a year older. The New Year is just another day with a different digit at the end of its date, just like one is only another day older on his birthday, although he gets to state a higher number when asked of his age. I guess mostly what bothers me is that everyone induces so much effort into the celebration of what to me seems a bit normal. Now, I do like to make a bit of celebration on unusual days, such as 5-6-7 day of last year (May 6, 2007) and 6-7-8 day coming up this year. There are only 11 of those days per century, unless you also would like to celebrate 9-8-7 and 10-9-8 days as well. That would be two parties a year for about a decade.
