Tidying Up

When I get behind on household chores I sometimes hire a woman to come in and help me catch up on the cleaning. Invariably the day she’s scheduled to come, you can find me picking-up, putting-up and getting things out of her way. Now I know for a fact that this is not just a female phenomenon. If some of the guys are invited over to see a project in a man’s shop, you better know that before they arrive he’s going to be doing a little picking-up and putting-up of his own. Believers often use the same thought process when it comes to their spirituality. If we knew when the Lord was returning for us, you’d see a lot of us tidying up our spiritual house.

Gail;

-----We live in an untidy world. Everything around us and everything about us needs picked up and tidied up far more than we are able to realize. Paul’s report of his experience in heaven was that he saw things of which he was not able to speak. The degree to which perfection is good, tidy, and picked up will amaze us, too, when we see it. So, to me, it is no wonder that there is always something else that can be put in order no matter how much we have cleaned. I think this is part of why Paul wrote, “…happy is he who has no reason to judge himself for what he approves.” (Rom 14:21) God is merciful enough to know that people who can not reach the fullness of perfection by their own efforts must be given the ability to draw a line short of it to represent what is good enough for the moment. I believe when Christ has returned for us and made us wholly perfect we will be amazed at how far short of perfect our lines of “very good” were drawn.

Love you all,
