Save Yourself

Those who passed by while Jesus hung on the cross hurled insults at Him and said, “…come down from the cross and save yourself!” (Mark 15:30 NIV) We know that Jesus took our sins to the cross and figuratively speaking that’s where they are today – still hanging on the cross. Yet not a day goes by that we don’t sense the world telling us the exact same thing that was told to Jesus, ‘…save yourself.’

Gail;

-----In a sense, Jesus did save Himself. In a sense, we also saved ourselves. The mockers merely look at the pointless thinking it is the point. Jesus had the ability to come down from the cross. He could have done it by His own power. He could have called legions of angels. It was His choice to stay put or come down. And if He had chosen to come down He would have perished for not doing His Father’s will. He saved Himself. He stayed put.
-----We also have a choice to do His Father’s will. We can choose to believe Jesus, or to mock Him as a liar. If we choose to believe Him, we are saved. If we choose to mock, we perish. It is our choice to be saved or to perish. Of course, choosing is all we can do to save ourselves. It is not by our power or ability that we are saved. But ultimately, it does depend upon our choice. So I saved myself; I chose to believe. And even though I found believeing to be a continuing lifestyle, I still marvel at how little we must actually do to save ourselves and how little our part in our salvation actually is.

Love you all,
