Life Sentence
I’m attending a 10 week Citizen’s Academy whose focus is on our local
Police Department. At our last meeting I was struck by the fact that a murderer
can eventually serve his time and be released from prison, but a sex offender
has to report either quarterly or yearly and forever will be listed on the sex
offender list. Don’t get me wrong, I think we all feel more comfortable knowing
if there is a convicted felon in the neighborhood, be it murdered or sex
offender. On a spiritual level, if it weren’t for repentance and forgiveness
through Christ, we too would be on the lifetime sinner offender list. “This righteousness from God comes through
faith in Jesus Christ to all who believe. There is no difference, for
all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,…” (Ro 3:22-23 NIV)

Gail;
-----If the righteousness we are came from ourselves we wouldn’t need Christ’s righteousness. But it doesn’t. John says we deceive ourselves if we think we have no sin. Paul tells us our bodies are dead because of sin, so we do the very things we don’t want to do. So we are still on the offender list. And we need to remember that. To do so is humility. To admit it is confession. When we confess our sins, when we admit our offenses, when we point to our own names on the offender list, Christ faithfully forgives us and cleanses us from all the offenses. So we groan inwardly with the rest of creation as we await the redemption of our bodies, while presently we are alive not in our bodies which are dead in sin, but in our spirits being dead to sin and alive in Christ. Then confessing that we do sin, we walk in the Spirit, registered in the Book of Life, plainly marked with the righteousness of Christ, freed from the condemnation prison held for us, yet duly forewarned of the mishaps our bodies still hold in store.
Love you all,
Steve Corey
