Having a Bad Day
When my son was in the 4th grade his teacher suffered from
Multiple Sclerosis (MS). From the very first day of class she let her students
know that if she were physically having a bad day she would warn them so that
they could then be on their best behavior. Not long after starting 5th
grade Troy came home from school frustrated and mad at his new teacher.
Apparently the entire class had gotten into trouble and through tears Troy
said, “We didn’t know. He didn’t even
tell us he was having a bad day!” On the Day of Judgment I suspect there
will be many who look at God through their tears and wonder why He didn’t warn
them that He was having a bad day. “Now
there is in store for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the
righteous Judge, will award to me on that day—and not only to me, but also to
all who have longed for his appearing.” (2 Tim 4:8 NIV)

-----What a quaint insight! And you give us this precious little gem right when I’m hurting the most. Yesterday towards the end of Revelation class, one of the guys mentioned that Israel becoming a nation in the Promised Land solidly evidenced the truth of God’s Word. That is something to which I shout, “Amen!” But I was aghast to hear the class leader retort, “What does that have to do with anything?” What? We’re studying Revelation and he thinks Israel’s return to the Promised Land is meaningless?! I tried to pop my stitching as respectfully as I could as I came apart at the seams!
-----This leader has denied Revelation’s involvement with history, current events, and future events to come all the way through the study so far. His whole take on Revelation is that it is God’s message that we win. Well, duh! Did it take these Holy Spirit inspired Apostles fifty years to finally get around to informing us by Scriptural writing that we win? I thought Paul was talking about that tidbit of glory before AD50. Besides, Revelation 1:1 does not read, “The revelation of Jesus Christ, which God gave Him to show to His servants that we win.” It most certainly reads, “The revelation of Jesus Christ, which God gave Him to show to His servants what must soon take place.” Now surprise me not, but I do believe things taking place are called events, which are current when they are now, history when they were then, and prophecy when they will be soon. “Soon.” Yes! Another word I think we read in verse 1. I know Revelation means we win. For goodness sake! The whole Bible means we win! But it also says, “KNOW SOMETHING!”
-----And what might we think is so important to know? How many times did Paul warn us to stay alert, be aware, and keep sober. Why? Because there is a lion on the prowl, and it ain’t THE Lion. The fact that it will masquerade as an angel of light is exactly why staying attentive and discerning is so important. And what does it take to be attentive? Why, of course, information. Yes, information about what is happening and what has happened and what will happen, as well as why. True information that comes from words of the Bible as they are written, and from the history of man as it has happened, and from things that are happening now. If the Bible is not indelibly tied to human history, then it is not a message about man’s way to victory out of this rocky path of lecherous affairs. Therefore the Word of God speaks of history and prophecy because it is about what man does as well as what God does. And history plays exactly into what the Word has said it will become, because the Word is precisely true.
-----Now this true message says we might well be advised to hunker down into the love and mercy of Jesus Christ the Truth, because like you so perfectly said it, there is coming a Day, yes my dear Revelation leader, an actual, physical, real, history making Day, which will be God’s bad hair day! So Jesus Himself says not to let that Day come upon you like a thief in the night, watch! And to watch, one must be informed about what to watch for. Surprise! Surprise! Surprise! “The revelation of Jesus Christ, which God gave Him to show to His servants what must soon take place.”
