New Year’s Resolve
Most New Year’s
resolutions have common denominators of being self-serving and easily broken. David
has me pondering his God-serving resolve. “Though
you probe my heart and examine me at night, though you test me, you will find
nothing; I have resolved that my mouth will not sin.” (Psalm 17:3 NIV)

Gail;
-----Many of the Psalms bewilder me. Romans 3:4 says all men are false. Many other Scriptures are sure to also expose men as far short of being righteous. Yet no sin is found when David is probed and tested? Surely he wrote of himself with hyperbole, or maybe he was being dismissive of the insignificant, not at all to diminish what happened between him, Bathsheba, and Uriah. Even though I am sure these “irreconcilable” thoughts about himself are prophetic statements about Jesus, it bothers me that he thought them. The only way I can avert the bother is to appreciate the way God uses the shortcomings of man to work His purposes.
Love you all,
Steve Corey
