Projectiles

I would be remiss if I didn’t share at least one good take-a-way from the gun safety class. The instructor reminded the class that you are responsible for every projectile that leaves the barrel of your gun. “With a hand gun, that may mean only one bullet. But if you are using a shotgun, that means you are responsible for every projectile in the shotgun shell.” Vice President Biden’s thought that citizens could better protect themselves by using a shotgun rather than a hand gun takes on a whole new meaning. Spiritually speaking, I thought of every projectile that rolls off our tongues and out our mouths. We are responsible for every word spoken whether the intended target is hit, missed, or there is collateral damage to others. “He who guards his mouth and his tongue keeps himself from calamity.” (Proverbs 21:23 NIV)

Gail;

-----You express one of life’s more important truisms. Words mean things. And that they can do damage to what they hit is not summarily problematic. Some things need damaged beyond repair. It is just as irresponsible to misfire as it is to hit a bulls-eye with the wrong bullet or hit the wrong target with the right bullet. I think of all the bulls-eyes being struck with praise for homosexuality merely because “these are people with feelings, too.” God fires His own bullets, so to speak, and the recent discovery of the destroyed cities of Sodom and Gomorrah in the midst of our culture’s bustle towards debauchery seems to be one. This isn’t the illusionary site at Bad ed Dhra, either. That location fits neither the geography nor the chronology of the Genesis story (which is why I think there is so much clamor for it.) The discovery at Tal Hammam fits the required geography, the chronology, and the terminology, plus, it yields a fiery destruction level containing pottery melted by temperatures in excess of two thousand degrees. That’s twice as hot as burning wood. Something else there burned. I think this archeological verification of the Sodom story during a time of tumultuous clamor for accepting everything base and perverted is a word of warning fired by God. We too should be so careful in choosing which bullets to fire when and at what targets.

Love you all,
