Childlikeness
Bruce Jenner’s transformation
from a man to a woman is all over the news, so I was somewhat perplexed when
the friend of a friend posted a comment on Facebook and included Jenner’s
glamor shots. I don’t have an issue with the man’s posted comments, but why he would
propagate the photographs by adding them to his own Facebook post is beyond me.
According to Jesus, disciples are to be childlike [trusting]. We don’t need
such material delivered to our inbox, particularly by others who purport to be
people of faith. Jesus takes a dim view of those who cause believers to sin. “But
if anyone causes one of these little ones who believe in me to sin, it would be
better for him to have a large millstone hung around his neck and to be drowned
in the depths of the sea” (Matt 18:6 NIV).

-----We all just want to be nice and to get along. For too many centuries man has been mean and unkind, telling people what to do and what to think about themselves and how to look. And if you don’t look like you should or do what you should you won’t be liked. So, if you want to be liked and you want your name to be honored far and wide, then do some things that show right up front and on the surface that you are kind and considerate and inclusive. Caitlyn’s pictures are ready made for the purpose. No explanation needed! Everyone knows who that is! And if anyone sees you treating those pictures with honor and respect, they will know how kind you are!
-----And not a word of it acknowledges the truth. The truth is no longer popular. If you even want to use that word anymore you must get ready to cringe or duck, for who knows what’s true, man? Who are you to say what’s true? Who died and left you to be king? If Bruce Jenner wants to become Caitlyn, well ain’t that his business?
-----I guess all them notions makes Caitlyn who’s to say what’s true. We know we’re close to finished when even conservative journalists refer to Caitlyn as “her”. You know they cower from the repercussions of calling him “him”, like he is. The truth is, he is still a male. Look into his genes; they define him. Just because the scalpel can mutilate him doesn’t mean it can erase either his genetics nor the historic truth. Caitlyn is a really messed up he. But I guess Jesus died and left him to be king.
-----It is sad to be messed up. That is another truth. So you think it would be mean to say somebody is messed up. But the truth is, we are all messed up really bad. Everyone will find out how shockingly messed up they were on judgment day. The only difference between Caitlyn and those who love the truth and will enter a blissful eternity through Christ is that they confess they’re messed up and will honor what God says they should become. It is a small difference.
-----Confession is important because it first locates you relative to the truth. That allows you to get a grasp on reality, which allows you to know what to be thankful for and what to resist. Some people are born with a tough row to hoe. Some are born blind and deaf, or without limbs, or physically attached to a goofy sibling. Some people are born uglier than a mud fence but sharp as a whip, others are born pretty as Barbie but dull as a rubber bell.
-----I keep a video clip on my computer which I’ve titled “Tarzan born pretty as Jane”. ABC ran the news story a few years ago about a condition in which a male’s body actually develops into a female body during gestation. He’s still male, but he actually is in a female body while being genetically male. This particular guy is really prettier than Jane. In fact, he is downright beautiful. And he sings that well, too, with a lovely voice. Everything about him is female except his genetics and his having testicles where there should be ovaries. Now there is a tough row to hoe.
-----But God made him. And God loves him as he made him. As the story went, he tried marriage for a while, but he had to bail out of it. He could just not tune his mind right being married to another male. Some things in life are sad. Some acknowledgements of the truth make them even sadder. But acknowledgement of the truth is always acknowledgement of God, no matter how ugly the truth is. And responding truthfully to the truth will always lead to eternal bliss, for that’s just who Christ is, the truth.
