Blinded by a Bargain

Bill wanted a bike mount to put on the garage wall that could have been purchased at Harbor Freight for $9.99. However, he found one on eBay for five cents and it was a bargain he just couldn’t pass up. Unfortunately, he won the bid and is now licking his wounds because with shipping and handling we now have a $20 bike mount. Believers are sometimes guilty of bargain shopping when it comes to the Gospel. Paul brings us up short, “I am astonished that you are so quickly deserting the one who called you by the grace of Christ and are turning to a different gospel— which is really no gospel at all. Evidently some people are throwing you into confusion and are trying to pervert the gospel of Christ. But even if we or an angel from heaven should preach a gospel other than the one we preached to you, let him be eternally condemned” (Gal 1:6-8 NIV)!

Gail;

-----Maybe the problem is that we’ve so lost track of the former value that we have no concept to compare with our current values. How many ways has God’s Word been degraded to this point in History? That God created the universe and everything in it in six days brings jeers. That He did so four thousand years ago brings up laughter from the belly. Global flood? Stop! Stop now! We’re killing everyone with laughter! And oh, by the way, most of our brothers and sisters in the Lord are laughing, too. How sad. That God chose and led His people into and out of Egypt to overthrow Canaan they treat as a comic strip. If their God is so feckless, how did he ever raise his miserable self from the dead? Especially considering the liar he would be for having told us all those wild, whopper tales.
-----Yes! Today’s value is science! Science will tell you everything you need to know! And it only costs a penny! (Beware of the shipping and handling charge.) And what an astonishing wonder science is. It is the only thing, other than Democrats, which can throw a pocket full of assumptions into a paper bag, shake it up, and dump out a solid fact! Wow! It’s like pulling rabbits from a hat! (And it puts miserably stupid people into high office, too. And that’s neither insult nor assumption. It is truth.) One of my clients, recently retired from a local merchant shop, told me he met my granddaughter, Sadie, in the store a couple months ago. He had a Tootsie-Pop, or something like that, about which she asked if she could have one. He asked her what the magic word was. She replied, “Abracadabra!” Now, doesn’t she have the concept of our current culture accurately pinned to the wall!?!
-----God in Heaven, thank you for information. Amen. The Word of God is not some frilly make-your-heart-beat-better, nighttime storybook. It is book claiming to be true to its core and backing that claim up with every tick of the clock. The only reason anyone has the chutzpah to believe it for what it says is because they have eyes that see and ears that hear. Over these eyes and ears a membrane can grow, made of everything one thinks he knows, lest he guard his heart with all vigilance.
-----A funny thing about Israel should make everyone laugh for joy. “He established testimony in Jacob, and appointed a law in Israel, which he commanded our fathers to teach to their children; that the next generation might know them, the children yet unborn, and arise and tell them to their children, so that they should set their hope in God, and not forget the works of God, but keep his commandments; and that they should not be like their fathers, a stubborn and rebellious generation, a generation whose heart was not steadfast, whose spirit was not faithful to God.” (Ps 78:5-8) Twice the whole world knew the Lord, in the days of Adam and Eve, and in the days Noah left the Ark. After Noah’s family made families of faithless families, God chose Israel as the people through whom to reintroduce Himself. And He chose faithfulness as the medication against that blinding, deafening membrane of “knowing it all”. Of faithfulness science screams, “Subjectivism! Subjectivism! It’s only subjectivism!” Yet, faithfulness beats the tar out of “Abracadabra” every time, because it sets the eyes and ears into a condition for seeing the little, important facts assumptions could only dream about.

Love you all,

PS. One little fact -1948 - is shouting like information. I can’t help but repeat over and over that according to the book of Jasher (to which the Bible refers three times,) Abraham was born 1,948 years after creation. This is really fun! Many Biblical historians estimate, quite accurately, that the Exodus occurred 1447BC. The Bible is quite clear, by scattered facts, that Abraham was given the promise 430 years before the Exodus when he was 70 years old. Then 1447BC + 430 years + 70 years would mean Abraham was born approximately 1947BC. I wonder if that 1447BC approximation might not be one year late? But if it were, that would make Usher’s 4004BC estimated date of creation 108 years off: 1948 years after creation + 1948BC = creation at 3896BC, which fits an early Rabbinical date I once read. The current Jewish year is 5777 from creation. According to Ken Johnson PhD (who’s brought many ancient Hebrew writings to our hands in English,) a 2nd century or so Rabbi “corrected” the Jewish calendar, leaving out approximately (my memory is great at only approximates) 135 years. Dr Johnson says he did it so Daniel’s 70 weeks of years would not so obviously point to Jesus Christ. Therefore, 5777 + 135 = 5912. 5912 - 2016 (today’s date) arrives at 3896BC. Hmm? Thinking is fun! But it shouldn’t be taken too seriously without verification of either actual factuals or God’s Holy Word. But I say all this because Israel is the arrow pointing the way to God and Christ, and isn’t it interesting all this stuff appears to hinge around the number which is the date of Israel’s becoming a nation again, a giant, giant, GIANT sign in these latter days. Moreover, from 70AD, the cutting off of the continual burnt offering, to 2018 is 1948 years. From the first blood moon of the 1949-1950 tetrad to the last of the 1967-1968 tetrad is 19 years. From the first of the 1967-1968 tetrad to the last of the 2014-2015 tetrad is 48 years. Oh, stop now! Stop it, Steve! STOP IT!
