As our house
was being built, I was taken aback by how often those in the trades (plumbers,
framers, electricians, etc.) made excuses for their own short comings by
blaming others. The electrician blamed the plumber when his electrical box
needed to be relocated. When the carpet wasn’t stretched correctly the carpet
layer blamed the electrician for poor lighting. When the texture failed to
cover the seams in the sheet-rock the painter was blamed. Some of these workers were
believers, yet they too pointed the finger at others to cover up for their own inferior
work and mistakes. Paul said, “And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do
it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through
him” (Col 3:17 NIV).
