Extreme Make Over Church Edition

Last week our Sunday School teacher told the class about the Henderson Hills Baptist Church in Edmond, OK. Their Elder Council is proposing a bylaw change which would eliminate baptism as a prerequisite to membership. WOW…Who would have ever thought that a Baptist church might toss out baptism because they consider it to be stumbling block for membership? My sympathy goes out to members of Henderson Hills who disagree with the proposed changes and are grieving the loss of their Southern Baptist roots. According to their web site, baptism is still important, but not for membership. In its make-over, the traditional church has been implanted, liposuctioned and bypassed to make her irresistible to non-believers. Just one more facelift or series of botox injections and I wonder if Jesus will be able to recognize His Bride!

Gail;
----Indeed, when Christ's bride is presented, the white garments she will be wearing will not be white by her own actions. Leaders have seized her from the control of her head, Jesus Christ. They have somehow determined that it is through their wisdom, devotion to God, and agreement amongst themselves that God presents His will to the church. And this unscriptural line of thinking has led that precious bride into every form of misdirection and error imaginable. It is no surprise to see this Baptist church drinking the Koolaide in the climate of today's leadership.
----But let's not make the mistake of blaming the whole of her wandering error on the leaders. Many good, godfearing, and well studied "laypeople" (gag me with a spoon, I hate that clergy/laity myth) sit on their little pews and allow the arrogance of the leaders to run bridle deep. God's call to stand up and speak out for the truth comes through His giving of the truth. Therefore, as many as have received the knowledge and understanding of the truth concerning matters of misguidance by the leadership have an obligation to Jesus Christ to stand up for that truth, in one capacity or another. And many are doing that in your church now. God grant them to continue before the errors there reach the full extent of the errors at the Henderson Hills Baptist Church (I wonder if that name implies the church is at the Henderson Hills or belongs to the Henderson Hills).
