Sincerely Yours,

Last week a community committee I serve on received a letter from a concerned consumer. Although we gave the letter consideration, it would have carried more weight if it had been signed by the sender. I know it’s the practice of many preachers and staff to disregard unsigned letters or notes and just throw them in the trash. Thankfully for the church, Paul was bold enough to sign the epistles or they too might have been tossed.

Gail;
-----However, let’s ask these preachers what we should do with Hebrews and many of the Proverbs and Psalms. It is so convenient to throw out another person’s point of view by claiming that the anonymity of the message invalidates it. These same preachers more than likely enjoy some Rush Limbaugh, Shawn Hannity, and Glenn Beck. They may even get into that Boortz guy. They don’t ignore the view points expressed by the callers to those shows on the grounds of their identities being restricted to first names only. No, Gail, this kind of preacher lacks the intellectual honesty required to deal with view points opposed to his own. They are the kind of men upon whom you can count to reject an idea not for its lack of merit, but for its lack of agreement. They know full well two points to their favor: 1) most people so much fear expressing themselves in public that they will only do it anonymously; and 2) most people willingly accept the deception that an anonymous message is an unworthy message. Preachers know those two elements will mix into a silencing poison for all but the Rock gutted. Now, what to do with them?
