Please God

As believers it’s not unusual for us to hear one another petition God for help. However, a couple of times I’ve witnessed situations where persons with no religious persuasion have cried out, “God help me. God save me. Please God, Oh God…, Oh God…” It appeared that their call to God was for relief from pain and/or duress, rather than as a matter of faith. The writer of Hebrews says, “And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him.” (Heb 11:6 NIV)

Gail;

-----On the simplest level man either turns to God or turns away. When those who deny Him call upon Him in their time of distress, they momentarily suspend their denial, and turn to Him. Momentarily, they have some faith, otherwise they would continue to curse Him. None of us are monolithic. Everyone harbors some inconsistencies in their belief. In the saved man it is the dead man. In the unsaved it is the door to repentance. I am glad God does not judge us monolithically, but has mercy upon our inconsistencies.
-----I think God is pleased by the inconsistencies of the wicked. Not in the same way He is pleased by those who face Him, of course, but their inconsistencies are pleasing possibilities, for their faith is yet a seed. “For he makes his sun rise on the evil and on the good, and sends rain on the just and on the unjust.” (Mat 5:45) He shines and rains on us for growth, but He shines and rains on them for germination. As every gardener checks each spot where she planted a seed, hoping to see the first signs of the ground breaking above a rising sprout, I am sure God checks each of the wicked, hoping to see signs of germination.

Love you all,
