In the Days of 2009

In the days of Noah …people were eating, drinking, marrying and being given in marriage. In the days of Lot …people were eating and drinking, buying and selling, planting and building. In the days of Believers…“Therefore keep watch, because you do not know what day your Lord will come.” Matt 24:42 NIV

Gail;

-----For many years I have pondered these two sayings about those in the days of Noah and those in the days of Lot. What could be wrong about eating, drinking, marrying, being given in marriage, buying, selling, planting, and building perplexed me. These are all necessities of life, yet the context and manner in which the Lord referred to them cast upon them an ominous shadow. We all need to do these things in order to survive, most obviously, eating and drinking. And if His followers had not married and been given in marriage the knowledge of Him would have quickly been reduced to only a dusty book and a few straggling, sexually pent up, psychotic followers. If there had not been buying, selling, planting, and building these pitiful followers would live at the total mercy and benefaction of unbelievers, who, as we all have observed, are not by nature that merciful or benevolent. It is logically true that He expected His followers to also eat, drink, marry, give in marriage, buy, sell, plant, and build.
-----This remained anomalous to me until recently when I realized the ominous shadow was not in what these people of Noah’s and Lot’s times were doing, it was in what they were not doing. Keeping “…watch, because you do not know what day your Lord will come…” is His intended addition to doing these other things, not their replacement. So we must eat, drink, marry, give in marriage, buy, sell, plant, build, and keep watch.

Love you all,
Steve Corey
