Networking

In the church we’re really skilled at studying, worshiping, and fellowshipping – but we’re lacking when it comes to networking. As defined by Webster’s, networking is: the exchange of information…specifically the cultivation of productive relationships… The Bible has its own definition of networking: “As iron sharpens iron, so one man sharpens another.” (Pro 27:17 NIV) I think many of today’s leaders today shy away from networking because of its revealing nature. Iron sharpening aluminum just doesn’t work.

Gail;

-----I am sitting here watching some preacher on TV persuading his congregation that assembling is more than just coming together. He sounds pretty good. He says you can drag all the parts of a Ferrari into his auditorium every Sunday, and although they will all be together, they won’t function as a Ferrari until they are assembled. He keeps reflecting on how much the individual is needed by the church and how much the individual needs to be connected to the church in order to give, and so the church can move out into the community and reach all those souls who must pour into the church now, because time is so short. Don’t you know! Somebody is needed to drive the Ferrari, I wonder who he has in mind?
-----I love your analogy of iron sharpening aluminum. I share your value for networking. Assembly is not lock-stepping with the preacher out into the community. Assembly is networking, where people come heart to heart, more than it is rank and file, where people go toe to heel. God is closest to the heart and mind of a person, and His significance to the church increases as those hearts and minds intertwine.

Love you all,
