Freedom

We have a leash law in the City and I had to smile when I saw a dog dragging his leash and his master walking 10 paces back. Not quite the letter of the law, but I had to admit that the dog was on a leash. Sometimes the Lord keeps me on a short-leash, however in a safe environment and if I’m obedient, He may let me off-leash. Oh the freedom! Come to think of it, the dog dragging his leash had a smile on his face too.

Gail;

-----In our last Sunday school class we were treated to a formal debate between Calvinism and Arminianism. If the Lord really does put us on a leash, so to speak, then Calvinism wins, as does the determinism of philosophical circles. I kind of like the free-will viewpoint, though. As it was pointed out in Sunday school, there is no particular Scripture which clearly states the free-will concept. But the Biblical message’s challenge for decisions, “How are you going to respond to the basic human perception of right and wrong and to the specific call of the Creator made in the otherwise unexplainable collection of His literature,” is quite clearly directed towards autonomous creatures. Even after making the decision to humble our selves before the Holy Lord, we are yet challenged to make more decisions of stepping further away from the self ambitions of survival in a world of cannibalistic perspectives. However, decisions they remain.
-----Scripture does sprinkle us with a little flurry of “Christ in you” and “work began in you” and such, but it is replete with “you love,” “you give,” “you honor,” etc. We are as much called to abide in Him as His Word is declared to abide in us. If there is anything leashish about our new lives, it would be the shaping of our actions by the principles of His Word. And I believe it would be a leash He only offers to us which we must then ourselves attach.

Love you all,
