Got His Number

Last week I received a political call asking me to contact my State Representative and encourage him to support a specific legislation. The caller offered to give me my Representative’s phone number and she was somewhat taken back when I told her I already had the number. When it comes to Biblical principles, it’s not unusual for a seemingly more mature believer to offer suggestions on interpretation and implementation of the Word. I love it when I’m well versed enough in Scripture to say, ‘Thanks, I’ve already got His number.’

Gail;

-----I love it when a brother or sister has enough confidence to offer an interpretation or implementation of a scripture. It seems these days a noxious principle has infected our social fabric: keep your ideas to yourself. I am a product of the different age which existed before the late 1960’s when mixing it up with ideas was more socially acceptable. Of course, there were more expressed animosities and maintained divisions then, but in reality, it was the animosities themselves and maintenance of the divisions which were improper, not the competition of ideas. Competition of ideas sharpens minds when a better principle is held: “Knowledge puffs up, but love builds up.” (I Cor 8:1b) Comparing and exchanging ideas accordingly is a good thing in as much as it is guided by the desire to benefit the one with whom you make the comparisons and exchanges, “We who are strong ought to bear with the failings of the weak, and not to please ourselves; let each of us please his neighbor for his good, to edify him.” (Rom 15:1-2)
-----Beware those who toot a unified ideology being nestled comfortably into a silent environment. Among the multitudes reflecting this sentiment is the nebulous cloud of its peddlers. They never discuss why ideology always remains diverse amongst a population of thinking people. They only discuss how the populace must progress by accepting the same ideology, oddly enough, the one these peddlers themselves hold. To them, the peacefulness of your silenced ideas is the platform for their propagated ones. So, to them, any divergent ideology is summarily torchable. And with them in ultimate control, so will be any divergent authors.

Love you all,
