When Did We See
We can hardly get out of a store or a restaurant without the smiling
cashier asking, “Would you like to donate
to_____?” Of course they are all worthy causes and even though the
fundraiser is trying to put a face to those who are suffering, I often can’t
see past the corporate structure. I don’t discount giving to organizations, but
I think the Lord wants us to be invested in benevolence and have a connection that
we can see for ourselves. “Then the
righteous will answer him, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or
thirsty and give you something to drink? When did we see you a
stranger and invite you in, or needing clothes and clothe you? When
did we see you sick or in prison and go to visit you?’” (Matt 25:37-39 NIV)

-----Like guns don’t kill people, contributions to charities don’t make benevolence. Both must look back to the intentions pulling the trigger.

Oh. By the way. Peyton Manning gave us Bronco fans a spectacularly exciting season. Yea! Tim Tebow did that, too. In fact, he kept the football eyes across America focused on the Broncos. Anyway, Manning won the division. Oh, yah. So did Tebow. And Manning kept the Boncos in their first playoff game long enough for one last chance at winning in overtime. So did Tebow. And they each threw a pass in overtime which determined the ball game. Tim’s won. I don’t say this because I would rather have Tebow in Denver than Manning. I say it because I would rather have Tim Tebow than Brock Osweiler. I am sure what won in Tebow’s Jr. High days had to be upgraded into what won in his High School days. Certainly his High School play was upgraded enough to grab two college championships and the Heisman. So why should his need to upgrade to NFL play have been impossible? He showed something special was there in his undeniably good moments. Then to cast him off like a dirty towel because his third year in the NFL was not glowing super all-star from the beginning of every game to the end, where he was spectacular? Especially when his statistics, including games won, including playoff games won, were better than John Elway’s were for the same number of his first starts? Tebow has something extraordinary inside him that would have come out only by humbling himself to good trainers and mentors. In Manning and Elway he would have had more than half that (of course, Manning’s trainer has been hired away.) Now, seeing the way the Jets treated Tim, he will never get the training or the chance to be great anywhere other than his little hospital in the Phillipines. But oh well, I guess Osweiler will somehow find a way to excite us, won’t he? His name will forever sound to me like a thud and a couple bounces.
