Thy Will, Not My Will

First some back-story on the February 19th blog, ‘Today’s Standards’: In our local newspaper the writer of a letter-to-the-editor put her opinion above God’s Word telling readers that today’s standards show the commitment ceremony of marriage should be extended to same sex couples. In a follow-up letter to the newspaper I challenged not only her comments, but the fact that when she distorts the Word and she is a stumbling block to people of faith. Apparently I hit a nerve. Last week in the mail I received a handwritten card from the stumbling block herself.  “Dear Ms. Marvel, I, too, am a person of faith, and I believe the Creator gave us a brain and a will and expects us to use them. (Signed).” It appears that the stumbling block doesn’t know Scripture, or if she knows it, she doesn’t believe what it says. Either way, she is deceived and deceiving others. Jesus is very clear about the ‘will’ we must follow. He said, “Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only he who does the will of my Father who is in heaven.”
(Matt 7:21 NIV)

Gail;

-----But this lady is right in that God gave us a brain and a will, expecting us to use them both. It was not for the lack of His own will that Jesus did His Father‘s will. The fact probably is that His will was stronger than any of ours. It’s just that He used His brain in directing His will. He did not will like many do, rolling the dice. Nor did He like others do by whatever rationalization serves their desired plans. He willed by what He reasoned true. Thus He knew His Father‘s will, then, since He was truth, He did it. This is the simplicity of humility. It is how truth sets us free.
-----All truth is not knowable. Enough truth is. Your doing our Father’s will evidences your brain’s obedience to what our Father said. What our Father said is written in the Bible. To call holy what the Bible clearly calls abominable while claiming the doing of our Father’s will evidences who really is her father. For such doing uses the brain to make subtle deceit rather than for finding truth, which our Father is. We don’t sort out the Bible. It sorts us out.

Love you all,
