What a Shame
Our local recycling committee is passionate about their save-the-earth cause
and in order to get more community involvement they have been given the charge
to find ways to educate the consumer. It appears to me that their mode of
operation, rather than educating, is to shame us into participation. The shame
card doesn’t play well with me for two reasons: 1) I don’t have a green bone in
my body, and 2) Scripture tells me that the earth as it is now will be burned
up…plastic grocery bags and all. I do wonder however, if the lack of
educational efforts by the recycling committee just might have an evangelistic
lesson for the church. Trying to shame people out of addictions, pagan
activities and a life of sin might work some of the time, but I like Peter’s
educational advice on the need for practicing abstinence, “Dear friends, I urge you, as aliens and strangers in the world, to
abstain from sinful desires, which war against your soul.”

Gail;
-----Education for green-weenying has definite limits. If it goes too far, it exposes the truth that things are already pretty spiffy here in the US. I do thank green-weenies for that. It was their pressures which reformed our attitudes towards maintaining a clean environment. But education now abandons their desires for Utopian perfection and totalitarian control. The first is not possible; the second soils their pristine landscape with the blood of countless innocents.
-----Most people will consider that to be a rash statement. Even many honest and upright green-weenies will object to it. Yet I stand on it because green-weenies flock with totalitarians. They need totalitarian control to reach their goal of perfection. Currently, in our once great nation bloodshed over politics and policies has not yet become generally acceptable. Therefore, totalitarians must temporarily restrict themselves to the more time consuming processes of fraud and brainwashing. Shaming is a milder form of intimidation, and both are tools from the common brainwashing toolkit. Then, totalitarians also need green-weenies because crisis is the ring in the bull’s nose by which they must lead us around. Green-weenies pump the enviro-crisis hoping you will run in fear to their totalitarian friends for relief. The old adage about human effort is very true: the perfect is the enemy of the good. And it is us common, good folk who will suffer in the end.
Love you all,
Steve Corey
