With local primary
elections on the horizon the political landscape is fast becoming a war zone.
In a public forum a citizen asked two candidates, “Have either of you ever
turned a blind eye to corruption and have either of you ever had an extra
marital affair?” Following the audible gasp from the audience both candidates
answered “No” and “No.” In today’s society people turn a blind eye to
corruption and have affairs all the time; however, the question really wasn’t
about corruption or affairs. The question was to catch one particular candidate
in a lie. I’m reminded of Jesus chiding the experts in the law for taking away
the key to knowledge and hindering those who were entering heaven. Following the
rebuke, “When Jesus left there, the Pharisees and the teachers of the law began
to oppose him fiercely and to besiege him with questions, waiting
to catch him in something he might say” (Luke 11:53-54 NIV).
