When
interviewing police officers, I like to ask their opinion on the public’s perception.
One officer said, “A lot of time people see the uniform and fail to see the
person in the uniform.” It occurs to me that believers do something similar
with one another. We look at a person’s physical appearance without recognizing
the Spirit working within that person. Paul said, “Because you are sons, God
sent the Spirit of his Son into our hearts, the Spirit who calls out, “Abba, Father” …But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience,
kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and
self–control” (Gal 4:6, 5:22-23a NIV).
