For an article I interviewed a young police
officer who has been on the job less than a year. In response to my questions I
anticipated he would tell me he focused on serving the public, catching the bad
guys and solving crimes. However, the young man said, “When I see support in
the community, like people waving at us and the thin blue line stickers on cars,
it makes a huge difference to us every day. It makes us want to do our job for
them. The people that support us are the ones I try to focus on throughout the
day.” Paul said, “Since, then, you have been raised with Christ, set your
hearts on things above, where Christ is seated at the right hand of God. Set
your minds on things above, not on earthly things” (Col 3:1-2 NIV).
