One of the
last acts of Jesus as he hung on the cross was to honor his mother, Mary. “When
Jesus saw his mother there, and the disciple whom he loved standing nearby, he
said to his mother, “Dear woman, here is your son,” and
to the disciple, “Here is your mother.” From that time on, this disciple
took her into his home” (John 19:26-27 NIV). Mothers hold a special place in
our minds and hearts; however, doing the will of the Father far outweighs any
earthly family relationship. Jesus said, “Who is my mother, and who are my
brothers?” Pointing to his disciples, he said, “Here
are my mother and my brothers. For whoever does the will of
my Father in heaven is my brother and sister and mother” (Matt 12:48-50 NIV).
