Hell, fire
and damnation sermons of the past have seemingly been replaced by a social Gospel.
More often than not preachers are putting forth current social-ills and then throwing
a portion of Scripture at the situation in order to make it applicable. In
essence, today’s ministers are keeping the eyes of believers focused on man and
the things of the world, rather than on the spiritual. Paul said, “So we fix
our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen. For what is seen is
temporary, but what is unseen is eternal” (2 Cor 4:18 NIV).
