The nation
grieves the loss of Arizona Senator John McCain, who up until the first of the
year, continued to perform the duties of his office. I’m reminded of the
priests from the line of Levi. The writer of Hebrews said, “Now there have been
many of those priests, since death prevented them from continuing in office…”
Senator McCain’s death, like the priests of old, prevent him from continuing in
office and he is now no longer a US Senator. However, on the landscape of faith
Christ is our High Priest, “…but because Jesus lives forever, he has a
permanent priesthood. Therefore he is able to save
completely those who come to God through him, because he always lives to
intercede for them” (Heb 7:23-25 NIV).
