When driving
I often stop on a yellow light and my husband reminds me that yellow means
caution and red means stop. I do something similar with Scripture. Jesus told
his disciples to be on guard against the yeast of the Pharisees and Sadducees
and they were confused. They thought Jesus meant bread, but he meant to be on guard
against their teaching. When I read that passage (Matt 16:6) I mentally put on
the breaks to avoid today’s Pharisees and Sadducees (teachers). However, what
the Lord is really asking me to do is use caution with teachers, but come
to a full stop if their teaching is in error. “…he was not telling them to
guard against the yeast used in bread, but against the teaching of the
Pharisees and Sadducees” (Matt 16:12 NIV).
