I recently
took advantage of the offer for a free seven-day gym membership. As a people
watcher I’m amazed at the number of people, men and women alike, who spend
hours bodybuilding and then cover up their work with tattoos. I overlook the chiseled features, powerful
pecks, and bulging biceps and my eyes are drawn to undistinguishable designs and
graphics that cover their arms, chest and legs. I’m reminded Peter’s charge to the
women of his day, “Your beauty should not come from outward adornment, such as
braided hair and the wearing of gold jewelry and fine clothes. Instead,
it should be that of your inner self, the unfading beauty of a gentle and quiet
spirit, which is of great worth in God’s sight” (1 Peter 3:3-4 NIV).
