Some
churches schedule times for baptisms in order to make it more convenient for
the staff. Other churches keep their baptismal ready at all times and offer an
invitation at every worship service. I feel, out of consideration for the moving
of the Holy Spirit, the waters of baptism should always be available. If the baptistery always stood ready making salvation decisions could mirror that of Philip and
the Ethiopian, “As they traveled along the road, they came to some water and
the eunuch said, “Look, here is water. Why shouldn’t I be baptized?”
(Acts 8:36 NIV).
