Next Generation

With ever increasing wickedness in the world, what parent doesn’t worry about the spiritual fight lying ahead for their children and grandchildren? Actually, if I let myself dwell on it, my tendency is to say, ‘Come, Lord Jesus - tomorrow.’ Luke puts things in perspective when he tells us, “For when David had served God’s purpose in his own generation, he fell asleep; he was buried with his fathers and his body decayed.” (Acts 13:36 NIV) I’m realizing the parental desire to spare my grandchildren from spiritual battles in the future would in reality deprive them of their opportunity to serve God in their own generation.

Gail;
-----There will be a battle for the children to fight until the Lord makes the final swing of the sword. It is the increasing tempest of that battle which bothers me. For with that increase in tempest comes an increase in casualties. And that reference is not to the trials and miseries the child of God must endure in this pit of writhing, but to those whom the enemy defeats by completely destroying their knowledge of the Lord. I used to think that abortion was actually a great benefit to the Lord in that it moved a soul from conception straight to the Judgment Room without enduring the pains, troubles, and spiritual risks of this life. But a couple decades ago I was rocked by the thought that there is only one time in all eternity for an incomplete, battered, and twisted soul to stand up in the presence of the Destroyer and boldly proclaim the wholeness, power, and truth of God by simply aligning itself with the Lord. That opportunity should be taken from no one. Therefore, seeing that it is not in our power to defeat the evil stirring this pit of writhing, it must be taken as our responsibility to prepare our children to stand for the Lord in it before they go to try and swim in it.
