Makeover

I find the make-over shows on TV interesting. Sometimes there is such a drastic change that it’s almost impossible to recognize the ‘old’ house, person or car. Extreme Makeover Home Edition is a show whose title is somewhat misleading. The producers find a family in need and rather than refurbishing their dilapidated house, the house is demolished and volunteers build a new house from scratch beginning with the foundation. When some of us came to Christ we were really just looking for a Spiritual nip and tuck. Imagine our surprise when we got an extreme makeover. “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has gone, the new has come!” (2 Cor 5:17 NIV).

Gail;
-----A couple significant differences between Extreme Makeover - Home Edition and Extreme Makeover - Spiritual Edition: In Home Edition, the residents are sent away while the new structure is built upon the foundation, whether it is new or not. But in the Spiritual Edition, a new foundation is always laid, and the old structure is retained for the resident himself to remake with the artistic and construction contractor - the Holy Spirit. I know some folks who would disagree with me about this, but the Bible assures us that we are not perfected in our own behavior, thoughts, and feelings during our temporal lives, even after we have come to Christ. In fact, quite to the contrary, Psalms assures us that our righteousness is like filthy rags compared to His. Regardless, we are washed pure as snow because we have chosen to be moved to the new foundation, which is Him. And that is what makes us a new creation. I have known many brethren who have testified about their drug habits, smoking habits, stealing habits, etc. being miraculously taken from them at conversion. I do not doubt their testimony a bit. But their many other remaining, tainted habits are, apparently, more easily observed by others than by themselves. We all fall short. Yet those of us who chose are secured to a perfect foundation.
