Calling on Him
Recently a woman in distress called wanting some information. She needed to know who to talk to about getting herself put on the prayer chain. Even though she’s been out of the church loop lately, she was asking for prayer support from active believers. I’d say she knew exactly Who to turn to.

-----Populism has some sort of gravitational attraction humans can not seem to resist. People don’t want to be too different, and they definitely do not want to be alone. So they develop affinities to others having similar habits, ideas, and interests. Group mentality forms little eddies in the current of an overall culture where people can become even more comfortable among folks of their own ilk. There they orbit each other like little clans.
-----The church is populated by people, and its family nature is meant by God for both comfort and shelter. But it has this taint of populism as well. It is sad that the thought of this woman being “out of the church loop” would even arise, as if somehow the church has a loop to be in or out of. The distinction between the “active” and the “inactive” makes visible this eddy within God’s collection of believers. But all who call upon Jesus Christ are in the family, matter not how inward and mundane their call, or how outward and vociferous. Sincerity alone marks a distinction to Him, while “active” and “inactive” seem to be more indicative of simply the measure of faith God has assigned. (Rom 12:3)
-----What is glorious is that among most of His children enough sincerity lives to soften the boundaries of loops and weaken the current of eddies. They will not disappear entirely until Satan is destroyed and man is perfected. But in His sovereignty He even squeezes droplets of benefit from these little errors, and He always has someone close by who will just step over what has been wrung dry.
