Pressing Forward

A Facebook post stated that Ken, a high school friend, was recently admitted to hospice and will now reside in a care facility. One of his former high school buddies commented on the post, “I’m sorry I haven’t been a better friend.” These classmates, who graduated more than 50 year ago, have apparently remained friendly, but the friendship itself appears to have faded. Spiritually speaking, some of us may have regrets for not being a better friend to Jesus over the last 50 years. Paul, who persecuted Jesus, is an example for us to press forward, “Not that I have already obtained all this, or have already been made perfect, but I press on to take hold of that for which Christ Jesus took hold of me. Brothers, I do not consider myself yet to have taken hold of it. But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus” (Phil 3:12-14 NIV).
